Following the signing of Newcastle United defender Oisin McEntee we caught up with Greenock Morton Fans Page to give us their thoughts on McEntee who played twenty eight times for The Ton last season.
Here are their thoughts –
Oisin joined us last summer on loan from Newcastle. Didn’t know what to expect from him, young guy coming into a well known physical league.
Paired him up with Alan Lithgow at centre half, giving him that experienced partner.
In all honesty, you wouldn’t know he was a young inexperienced player.
Commands the box constantly, looks to get his head on everything.
I don’t recall him really missing a defensive header.
One thing that stood out for me is his awareness. We had a poor season, and at times he’d just take charge and drive with the ball to create a chance himself. As well as making his way back instantly to defence.
A key trait of Oisin is his last ditch tackles. He’ll stand his man up all the way till he’s ready to shoot, and throws himself at it – he even gets straight back up and celebrates every tackle he makes.
He has the potential to be a really good captain. He managed to get a number of call ups to Ireland 23s during his spell at us but he’d be straight back in the starting 11, not wanting to miss a game.
A solid defender, no nonsense, gets the job done.
We would like to wish Greenock Morton the best of luck for the new season.
