Barnet`s Half term Report

I must admit Barnet have surprised me, not only with the draw at Underhill but most importantly in they`re mid table position, so it`s hats off to manager Paul Fairclough.
At the pre season review I was quiet pessimistic about their chances of survival forecasting a bottom two finish. However they are now sitting in mid table with 31 points, and I see no reason why that can`t be maintain although I don`t see them pushing on much further. The loss of star striker Tresor Kandol to Leeds hasn`t been the catalyst for disaster many had predicted.

Barnet have also been successful in putting behind them the behind the scenes turmoil which threatened football at Underhill, so perhaps that siege mentality can see them through.
My main concern was goals, I wrote at the start of the season
. “Goals were a problem last season and despite the signing of a Brazilian striker today this may remain a problem. Especially with one striker still playing for HM Prison Service and the other who didn`t live up to his billing last season.”
However goals have been flowing for Barnet, in fact they would be higher up the table if they were not going in at both ends. Also a problem conceding in the last 5 minutes of a game has cost them numerous points
So although I thought ” Whilst it seems unjust to suggest that Barnet would enjoy life at the top of the conference rather than the bottom of the league it almost seems like they are planning that way, a season of struggle on the cards, unless major changes happen during the season” it seems they do have the fight and backing to build on last seasons survival.
