Gaffer Chris Hutchings has spoken of his disappointed about the defeat at home to Tranmere on Saturday.

Walsall played out an excruciating 4-1 loss to the bottom side club, which compounds their problems and plunges Hutchings future as manager further into doubt.

He told the Express and Star: ‘I`m a fan and I`m disappointed – no-one is more disappointed than me.’

Hutchings laid into his players ‘lack of effort,’ adding ‘We`ve got to work extremely hard and so have the players. They have to work harder than they are doing now.’

Saddlers now have to move forward and look immediately to Saturday and Tuesday, when they have away games to Huddersfield and Peterborough respectively.

Hutchings concluded: ‘”We`ll have to sit down, analyse it and plan for next week because it`s a massive game, we`ve got Huddersfield who are flying high and they are a good side.’

I feel it is too little too late for these comments from Hutchings. Anyone who was there to witness Saturday’s lack of spirit and coordination from the players could not question that the manger himself has to take a portion of the responsibility. The crisis has been going on for too long and deepening for Hutchings to come out with half hearted statements like this.
