In the drop zone again!

As we all know, Walsall’s crunch clash with fellow strugglers Scunthorpe, was called off due to a frozen pitch, after some freezing weather the last few days.

This, then gave relegation rivals Wycombe Wanderers the chance to climb above us and sink us, temporarily at least into the drop zone.

This is a chance that they duly took this afternoon with an impressive 2-1 home victory against Tranmere Rovers.

Tranmere man McGurk taking the lead for Tranmere before a quick turn around by Wycombe men Whichelow and Ainsworth to see Wanderers pick up maximum points.

This now leaves The Saddlers in 21st place, one point behind Wycombe and level on points with Scunthorpe who have an unscheduled game in hand over us.

This also leaves Walsall only two points off the bottom spot.

This now puts massive impetus on Dean Smith and the lads to deliver a result next week, with a home tie against Colchester in prospect, as points are now vital in our steadily worsening league position.

The match against Scunthorpe is yet to be re-arranged.
