A lot of the saddlers fans have been looking forward to the return of Darren Wrack. Latest news is that he should be back in about four to six weeks, although fellow leg break victim Alex Nicholls will return much sooner. However that will be over a year since that Colin Miles tackle at Yeovil. The truth been that it had been a while since we had see the true Darren Wrack in a saddlers shirt.

Darren will always be remembered at Bescot for his contribution as a wide midfielder come winger, and his goal scoring exploits were a major contribution to promotion under the Graydon era.In the Championship he found things harder, as did the team in general but was still able to command a starting place albeit in various positions, from Right and left midfield, Right full back, wing back and central midfield. He also played just behind the striker quite sucessfully. It maybe this versitility that will be his path back into the team. A player who can fill in well coming of the bench will be worth there weight in gold in league two.

The main question is will he be the player he was a couple of years ago. If he can regain that form Darren could be a star performer in this league, but that maybe a big ask. Not only is Darren reputed to be not the best at looking after himself physically, there is always a question over how he will cope mentally after such a near career threatening injury. Youngster Daryl Taylor lost a lot with his knee injury, it is hoped Darrens experience will help over come a more serious injury. Also with Darren entering the later years of his career has he the desire or indeed the legs to regain top form.

On the plus side, I feel due to his reported unhealthy habits he suffered as much as anyone under the undisciplined Merson days. The fact his best football was under Ray Graydon gives power to the arguement that he needs the type of enviroment Dickie Dosh has reintroduced at Bescot. Ability is there is the desire…I for one hope so. A top of form Darren Wrack could the difference between promotion or not.

What do you thing the prospects are of him regaining the glory years…
