Walsall are boosted this Monday by the addition of midfielder Tom Williams until the end of the season. The 30 year old is left footed and can provide cover in the middle and in defence.

Boss Dean Smith said of his arrival: ‘I am delighted to have him on board; he’s just what we need at the moment and will add extra competition for places, which is always a good thing.’

Williams is well travelled with over 300 appearances to his name. He started his career 10 years ago at West Ham before moving to Peterborough after a loan spell. Next was Birmingham City where he failed to get going and after loans to Queens Park Rangers, he went back to Peterborough, then onto Barnsley in 2004. He then went to Gillingham, then Swansea, before joining Wycombe Wanderers. Another return at Peterborough United then led to another return and loan spell at Queens Park Rangers. A loan to Preston North End did no earn him a contract and his contract at Peterborough United ended. He then signed a six month contract at Bristol City, but he was promptly loaned out to Colchester United, before his City contract was terminated in January.

That`s a whole load of loans and clubs to get through, which may indicate that he is good on paper but fails to deliver the final product. But! Another player on board to strength the squad. Good Luck to him and I hope he gets clearance for tomorrow`s home clash with Dagenham and Redbridge.
