Walsall were ranked 45th out of the 92 league clubs as the cheapest day out with a cost of a match ticket, a cup of tea, a pie and a programme equalling £25.10, in a survey released by the BBC today.

The BBC recorded the most expensive and cheapest season tickets and adult matchday tickets as well as the cost of a cup of tea, a pie and a programme, to calculate the cheapest day out at a football match.

The survey found the average cost of the cheapest adult ticket in the top four divisions of English football has risen by 11.7 per cent, from £19.01 to £21.24 in the past 12 months – more than five times the rate of inflation.

‘Despite the difficult economic times we live in, prices at some clubs and at some levels of the game are still exceedingly high,’ Malcolm Clarke, chairman of the Football Supporters’ Federation, said.

‘It is quite shocking that at Arsenal, for example, the cheapest season ticket is only £15 short of £1,000.

Football is becoming more and more expensive compared to that of rugby but as a Walsall fan we cant complain about the cost of a day out, can we????
