Saddlers Legends

Now I have to confess this one is a bit biased because this man was one of the players who first got me interested in Walsall.

Rodney McDonald played up front for the Saddlers in the early 90’s and was signed from the hotbed of football talent that is Colne Dynamo.

During 4 years with the Saddlers McDonald scored 41 goals in 149 league games and helped push us into the third division playoffs in 1993.

He was known mainly for his abilities to do the dirty work as well as having a good finish on him.

When he left Walsall in 1994 he moved to Scotland and to Partick Thistle where, as he had at Bescot, he became a fans favourite.

His career continued at Chester, Winsford, Accrington and Barrow before he retired a few years ago.

The footballing talent appears to have run through his family as his son Clayton McDonald who is 18, has recently put pen to paper on a contract with Man City.

Clayton is however nothing like his dad and plays as a big and bruising centre back.

If you remember McDonald let us know what you remember about him on our forum.
