Vale man to join Saddlers

Rumours have been about, linking us to a double signing from near neighbours Port Vale. One part of the deal was thought to be for Vale hot shot Leon Constantine. However he seems desperate for bigger and better things than Walsall, with a number of Championship clubs showing interest, we also have competition from other league one clubs with Carisle looking at him to replace ex Saddler Karl Hawley who also looks championship bound. All in all it seems doubtful we will see him in a Walsall shirt.

However the other part of the rumour which involved ex saddler Danny Sonner has took a step near when news was broke at Vale Park that Danny had in fact turned down an improved offer from Vale. The rumour mill has it that Walsall’s offer for the player is greater than Vales improved offer.

Danny Sonner isn’t a player that many Saddlers would have put on the top of there shoping list. He spent 11 months at Walsall whilst we were in the championship and it must be said his form was hit and miss. Some great performances like Portsmouth away were mixed with some average fayre. However after his 24 appearances he was shown the door by then manager Colin Lee.

Could he do a job for the Saddlers well the answer is yes and he is proven at this level and would provide the experience to bring on the crop of young players at Walsall, but he isn’t the creative player many fans are after. Even Vale boss Martin Foyle called him a marmite player, you even love him or hate him. I don’t see him as a replacement for Deano either. So I wouldn’t be unhappy if we signed him but would be looking at other midfield signings to complement him and the team.
