Probably one of the lowest nights in Walsall’s history.

Before tonight we had the ‘easiest’ route possible to a lucrative third round tie and try and salvage something from our shocking season so far and what do we do?…..we lose.

Walsall made three changes to the side that lost to Swindon, with Bowerman, Chambers and Brandy replacing Grigg (international duty), Mantom (inelegible) and Baxendale.

Our subs bench well, was quite possibly the weakest it has ever been and hits home that Smith really needs to add to his already depleted squad. That’s if he gets chance.

The first half was a carbon copy of Sincil Bank with Walsall looking low on confidence and no creativity – story of the last 6 weeks! Luckily for Walsall, Lincoln were unable to capitalise on some howlers from David Grof.

Five minutes after the re-start and Lincoln found themselves deservedly infront. Tom Miller found Power and he was able to capitalise on some woeful defending as we tried to play the offside trap……play to the whistle!

Ten minutes from time and Walsall found themselves with a lifeline (déjà vu from the first game) as Richard Taundry equalised after some good work from the full back.
Yet another game where Lincoln were harshly punished.

The game went into extra time and I for one was hoping for a Torquay 8-4 just to give the 1,300 bravely Walsall fans who decided to turn up something to shout about, unfortunately two quick goals from Lincoln put the game to bed and to be fair Walsall got what they deserved, nothing!

A last minute consolation goal isn’t going to cover the cracks of yet another woeful defeat, although Williams nearly levelled it with 124 minutes on the clock.

We are now out of all cups and find ourselves plummeting closer to the relegation zone.

Something has to change and now I find myself questioning whether Smith deserves another day in the job.
