Walsall Boss Hints At More Summer Signings

|

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke has today hinted at another three signings before the transfer window closes on September 3rd.

Clarke has already signed eleven players this summer with Jack Rose, Shay Facey, James Clarke, Mat Sadler, Cameron Pring, Jack Kiersey, Danny Guthrie, Stuart Sinclair, James Hardy, Wes McDonald and Elijah Adebayo signing on the dotted line.

He did concede that no deals were close to completion.

“I brought a 22-man squad out here (to Poland) and I’d still like to bring another two or three players into the squad by the end of the transfer window”

“We’ll continue to assess things as we go along, but there is nothing close at the minute.”

“Recruitment is an ongoing thing behind the scenes and we’ll add two or three before the window shuts.”

The squad has been completely overhauled since he arrived at the club with no fewer than thirteen players departing the club, however Clarke has been happy with how the new group are gelling but reserved optimism saying the proof of the pudding will be when they step out onto the pitch.

“There is a really good togetherness about the group.”

“They are gelling together quickly.”

“But the proof in the pudding is when the season starts.”

Despite the new players arriving many have been impressed with the emergence of youngsters Callum Cockerill-Mollett and Alfie Bates and the manager was quick to praise both of them.

“Alfie is a fit and robust lad.”

“He has sat in our midfield and done really well.”

“I thought at Leamington he (Cockerill-Mollett) had a cracking game as the left-sided centre-half in a three,”

“He worked it really well. He is tenacious, strong. I’ve been really pleased with him throughout the course of pre-season.”

The Saddlers are back in action this weekend as we face recently relegated Notts County at Meadow Lane before facing Tranmere and Aston Villa before the season officially starts at Northampton Town on August 3rd.
