Walsall FC – Paying The Price

Quite often you hear people talking about the great divide between the ‘loyal supporters’ and the ‘stayaways’ at Walsall FC.

I understand the opinions of both groups however when you saw the FA Cup draw on Sunday afternoon you cant help but slowly side with the ‘stayaways’ as it has been heck of a long time since something exciting happened down WS1.

As many of you may know, had we defeated our conference opponents Lincoln and Mansfield, then we would have had a lucrative home tie against Liverpool in Round 3.

Could you imagine The Banks’s Stadium full? – No neither could I, but just imagine what that could of done to the coffers and potential confidence boost to players/staff and most importantly the fans….

I find myself asking, in this current economy how can supporters continue to pay for themselves and their children to watch a team that is quite happy settling for 21st in League 1 and who have yet to reach Round 3 of the FA Cup since 2005?

As a paying customer you want value for money. If you dont like the service you are paying for then you change it or decide to put it on hold until it improves.

Walsall FC isnt like a gas supplier or electricity supplier but as a football club our love for them is in our blood. We cannot change what club we support and love but we can decide whether the service we are paying for is good enough and lets face facts, at this moment in time it really isnt.

Someone made a very good point on another message board that prior to players signing for Walsall we should show them DVD’s of yester-year when Walsall DID cup runs and were occasionally Giant Killers!

This is a vicious circle that we currently find ourselves in and until the club’s fortunes change then we will continue to see sub 4,000 attendances and have the last dibs in the transfer market….
