Paul Merson has told fans that the club are trying to bring in more players ahead of the weekends game against Gillingham.

He told the official site ‘We made enquiries about bringing a right-back in on loan, but the lad decided to stay at his club as he feels that he has a chance of getting into the first-team. We are currently attempting to secure the services of a box-to-box midfielder from The Championship who would go straight into the starting line-up for Saturday’s game if we were successful in getting him in on loan.’

But warns they won’t take just any body, he wants improvements: ‘As ever, though, we will only bring in players who are going to improve the team and are better than what we already have.’

Merson currently has non league players James Constable and Dean Perrow on trial. ‘James is a strong lad who holds the ball up well. He played in a practice game earlier in the week but the conditions weren’t the best so I am going to have a look at him in action for Chippenham against Worcester next week. We are also keen to take another look at Dean. He has trained with us a few times over the past couple of weeks but work commitments have prevented us from having an extended look at him.’
