On tuesday Walsall gained a further three points to reach the saftey mark of 52 points and finally stave off another relelgation, whoops sorry its December not April, so that must mean the promotion band waggon is still rolling along.

The boxing day panto treat this year was served up with Barron hardup (Jeff Bonser) watching from the stands as ref Andy D’Urso performed as the evil wicked witch of the West. Even the dismissal of Tommy Wright couldn’t help cinderella club Shrewsbury as it was walsall who ended up heading towards the (promotion) ball. However it was a half time switch that helped make the shrews look like the seven dwarfs as DD put on Craig Pead into midfield and Fox moved wide as Tony Bedeau exited stage left. This gave the team more balance and allowed Craig to support loan striker and everyones favorite Martin ‘Buttons’ Butler from midfield. However it was Mark Wright as Aladin who used produced a bit of magic and beat his man cut inside and bent a wonder shot low in of the far post as Shrewsbury defenders shouted to poor Scot Shearer ‘it’s behind you’ and behold it was nestling in the net.

However as a poor Shrewsbury side throwed caution to the wind the pantomine got going with Shrews keeper getting a head to a corner in the Walsall box only for the Christmas fairy to help Dann’s clearance off the bar.

The final whistle brought the curtain down on a fine performance, met by a standing ovation. It is now hoped that an encore will follow on saturday as DD as Peter Pan hopes to put Captain Hook and the (Bristol Rovers) pirates to the sword.
