With Walsall’s history of not dishing out long contracts lightly and also not paying over the odds or more than we can afford, the chances are Darren Byfield will not be a saddler next season.(no real suprise really)

Walsall`s hopes of signing free agent Darren Byfield look bleak with Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Cardiff City all joining the race for the striker.

Of these Cardiff and Plymouth will have a lot to do to get Darren who has let it be known that he wishes to stay in communting distance of his Midland home. This putting Sheffield Wednesday in the driving seat with an outside chance for Burnley. The possibility of a midlands championship club seem slim with no interest been confirmed by Wolves or Coventry. However League one rivals with money maybe lurking in the shadows with Leicester awaiting on a new man before confirming anything, and newly promoted money bags Peterborough spending not really bothing about a wage cost may see them considering his experience invaluble…and he could always get a lift off Keates or Westwood…or even car share in this carbon footyprint age!!!
