Walsall has become some what of a feeder club for Kiddy in recent seasons with many a saddler going on loan to the Conference club, eventually making the move out of Bescot and into the Harriers.
However one player who is looking to buck the trend is James Constable, the young forward who is playing catch up. He is twenty two but this is his first season as a proffessional, following he’s signing from Chippenham by former manager Paul Merson.
Last season whilst still been very rare James or Beano struck a couple of first tem goals to lift expectation of some fans. Whilst others were quick to pick up on his shortcommings and cast doubt on his ability to make the grade with the saddlers.
To some this loan spell signalled a make or break spell for the striker. He has responded the best way any striker could with goals. A Hat trick on saturday against Vauxhall motors brought his record to 7 goals in 7 games. Whilst it would be wrong to sugest that he is suddenly the finished article, he is still the possible rough diamond which Paul Merson took a chance on. However it has made him a favorite with the Harriers fans who would be keep for him to extend his stay past the end of the month.
James in a press interview has been keen to stress his ambition to make it as a proffessional footballer at Bescot. He also understands that partd of his game need to be worked on, and it is hard work which is going to happen as he shows his determined streak.
So what price James Constable, Peterborough have recently picked six players from the non league scene as the non league transfer market has generated 1 million pounds. Whilst Clayton Donalson from York is rumoured to be the next big target for a 100k bid, having hitb 25 goals in 47 games. So if noyhing else Walsall have a asset and should look after it if it is only to get a profit on the investment. However wouldn’t it be nice if James could hit the goals to send us up a division.
