Walsall boss Jon Whitney has today said he wouldn’t be surprised if Bury kept hold of winger Zeli Ismail in January now they are under new management but did state he will do everything in his power to keep him at the club.

Speaking to Express and Star, Whitney said

“I am going to do all I can to keep Zeli – I would love to keep him,” Whitney said.

“If I was Bury I would call him back. But we will do our best and I`d like to think that Zeli would like to stay as well.

“That`s no disrespect to Chris Lucketti at Bury. But I understand the position they are in. If I was Chris I would be trying to get Zeli back’

If I was Jon Whitney I would be trying to sort out a permanent deal for Ismail who has come into the side and changed our fortunes around, however transfer fees and Walsall FC don’t go hand in hand, best we can probably hope for is Bury accepting another loan deal and we look to sign him at the end of the season.

Three other loan deals are up in January – Shaun Donnellan, Daniel Agyei and more importantly Tyler Roberts. I would imagine Donnellan and Agyei loan deals will be extended without much trouble however the future of Tyler Roberts looks bleak with many clubs across Europe showing an interest in the Albion frontman.

January is a key month for us, we strengthen and top half finish is possible. We fail to reinvest back into the squad and Jon Whitney will have a very difficult end to the season.

Over to you Walsall FC….
