Bescot Beat: Weekly round-up

I have to say as a Saddlers fanatic, I’m gutted! I cannot believe how we are conducting ourselves at the moment with the view that we can get into the Playoffs?

For example, if you have driven past the Bescot…sorry Banks’s Stadium, you will have noticed that the stadium is over-shadowed by a gigantic advertising thing. I thought we had a lack of budget due to the fact we couldn’t get anyone to sponsor us, so why are persisting with trying to get sponsors to advertise?

I know we cannot not afford to advertise our services off the pitch to survive, I mean we the public aren’t the only people who have to pay their rent, Bonser does too. However, I find it hard to believe that we need to do that to bring in extra revenue? Wasted cash!

Another thing….Ian Breckin! Good player, experienced, and available on a free transfer. Excellent proposition! However, a one-year deal is not enough to persuade him to move his family down to the midlands and has consequently gone to League Two Chesterfield. They offered him a two-year deal, so therefore guranteeing his future. We have no chance if this is the way we are going to conduct ourselves in the transfer market. Players want stability not insecurity, and that’s exactly what you will get if you come to Walsall at the moment. We need to stop being a circus and get real.

Also this week, we have seen an already gapping hole in the back four become a so big, it would make black-hole look like a bird table. Anthony Gerrard went to Cardiff for a reported £250,000. Cheap if you ask me. I had to editor of Vital Cardiff saying surely we should be paying more. I agree, and utter joke!

I would like to conclude that this week has seen Walsall get a reality check, and as a supporter, it hurts. We need a backer, a new man with silly money, like a Dave Whelan type chap who is willing to take the club forward. At this rate, if we finish mid table, we will be over-achieveing!

Until next week, as they say, no news is bad news in football.

P.S. Good luck Gezza!
