Breaking News – Walsall Complete The Signing Of Former Norwich And Rangers Defender

|

Walsall have today confirmed the signing of former Norwich City captain Russell Martin as a player coach on a one year deal.

Martin who played with Walsall boss Dean Keates at Peterborough is thought to be the mystery free transfer that Keates had been working on since the summer.

Martin captained Norwich City between 2011 and 2018 including their stint in the Premier League following promotion from the Championship.

The thirty-two year old played three hundred and eight times for the Canaries before moving to Rangers and played seventeen games for Rangers under former Norwich youth coach Graeme Murty.

The Scottish international who has played twenty-nine times for his country had been without a club for two months but has recently been training with West Bromwich Albion and Keates earlier this week said his target was a senior pro and he had no concerns that he hadn’t played for a few months.

This is a major coup for the Saddlers and adds much needed experience to the back line.

Everyone at Vital Walsall welcomes Russell to the club.
