Keates Preparing For Busy Transfer Deadline Day

|

Walsall boss Dean Keates has today admitted that the telephones are red hot as deadline day approaches with the boss keen to add a couple of players to his squad.

“It is going to go crazy over the next 24 hours and has already started picking up pace.”

The Saddlers have already added Cameron Norman, Scott Laird, Dan Scarr, Omar Mussa and Matt Jarvis to the squad but Keates has hinted that he may bolster the attack tomorrow.

Walsall have scored just thirty-three goals this season (the sixth lowest in League 1) and with Andy Cook scoring just under fifty percent of those, it’s not rocket science to see we need another striker if we are to avoid being sucked into the relegation scrap.

Speaking to Express and Star, Keates said

“We need to make sure we go into the tail end of the season in the strongest position possible,”

“We want to add a couple of bodies and hopefully that will be done.

“We are looking at adding one or two in the next 24 hours. All being well we can get the right ones in.”

Keates has also confirmed there could be more departures from the Saddlers with just over twenty-four hours remaining of the January transfer window.

“We are trying to add, will players go out? That is also a possibility.”

I would hope that any departures will be some of our youngsters going out on loan – our squad is already light in certain areas but Keates may have to let more leave in order to bring some in. Josh Ginnelly and Kieron Morris have left during this window.
