Walsall legend Mick Kearns has officially announced he will be retiring from his role as Community Director and Goalkeeping coach with immediate effect.
Mick Kearns is Mr Walsall.
He started his career with the Saddlers in 1973 and went onto make 293 appearances for the Saddlers before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1979. During his time here he went onto make 18 appearances for Republic Of Ireland making him the most capped Walsall player in our history.
After 3 years away from Walsall, Mick returned to the club in 1982 and played a key role again until he left in 1985.
In 1989 he joined the club for the 3rd and last time, taking up the role of Community Director and also a part time role as goalkeeping coach.
Its fair to say that Mick is one of the best ‘keepers we have ever had between the sticks for Walsall and his mentoring of Jimmy Walker will also live long in the memory.
Whilst Mick has retired from his full time role, he has agreed to become matchday host for the start of next season aswell as continuing his role on Saddlers player.
The club are looking to offer him an ambassador role in the coming months.
