Shay Hello To Our New Signing

|

Walsall have today completed the signing of defender Shay Facey.

Facey was released by Northampton Town at the end of last season and becomes Darrell Clarke’s sixth summer signing.

Facey started his career at Manchester City before moving to New York City, Rotherham and Herenveen before joining Northampton permanently last summer.

It was at Man City where Facey was seen as a bright prospect. In 2013-14 he was named as vice captain of their development side and was also nominated for U21 player of the year.

Facey joined Manchester City’s Major League Soccer sister club New York City FC on a season-long loan in March 2015, after impressing New York manager Jason Kreis who spent time with the club through 2014 and 2015. Prior to signing for the club, Facey trained with the side the previous month

He then joined Championship side Rotherham United and featured five times for them before moving onto Dutch side Heerenveen. He made four appearances for them before returning back to England and joining Northampton. He was released at the end of last season.

He has represented England at Under 16, Under 17, Under 18 and Under 19 level.

Facey played forty-two times in all competitions for the Cobblers.

Everyone at Vital Walsall welcomes Shay to the club.
