Sunderland Confirm Signing Of George Dobson

Sunderland have announced the signing of Walsall midfielder George Dobson for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.

The Northern Echo reported earlier today that Walsall were looking for ÂŁ2m for the former West Ham midfielder.

Dobson finally leaves the Banks’s Stadium after a summer of uncertainty which has seen last seasons captain train with the youth team.

The former West Ham midfielder has not played a single minute of pre-season and didn’t travel with the squad to Poland after informing Darrell Clarke he wanted to leave the club.

Dobson started his career as a youth player with Arsenal in 2005 before moving to West Ham in 2015. He joined the Saddlers on loan in 2016 and made twenty-one appearances before joining Sparta Rotterdam in 2016.

His time in Holland wasn’t perfect and he returned back to the UK in January 2018 to sign permanently for the Saddlers.

He made a further sixty appearances for the club and taking over as club captain following the injury to Adam Chambers.

He signed a two year extension to his contract in November last year.
